When James Cameron makes a movie, you know you’re going to be in for a ride. His last film was 1997’s Titanic, which went on to win 11 Oscars and became the highest grossing film of all time. Now Cameron has returned to give audiences the cinematic experience of their lives with his latest offering, Avatar. The film - set in the 22nd century on a distant moon called Pandora - tells the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralysed marine who volunteers to be part of a unique science expedition.
Sully’s job is to remotely control an artificially-grown body called an Avatar, genetically engineered from his genes combined with the genes of the Navi, a humanoid race native to Pandora. By controlling his Avatar, Sully soon gains the trust of the Navi, learns their ways, and falls in love with a Navi princess (Zoë Saldana). However, this leads Sully to get caught up in a war between the Navi and the military forces of Earth, with Pandora’s fate hanging in the balance. Using some of the most advanced special effects ever portrayed on film, Avatar offers a breathtaking vision of an alien world, combined with intense action sequences and a compelling story line. It promises to be the cinema event of the year. You’re going to want to see this movie and you’re going to want to see it big... and it doesn’t get any bigger than on Imax.
