The Club House situated in the Dunkirk Estate now has a new restaurant appropriately called Fabulous Flavours which like its popular Ballito FOOD matters promises the same measure of fine service. Whilst the restaurant will titillate your gastronomic senses in an ambience of peace and calm, another tranquilizing experience awaits the guests. As a suitable entrée to your meal go out onto the deck with your favourite drink in hand to witness one of the reasons why Dunkirk can justifiably carry the mantle of being an authentic Eco Estate.
All the landscaping has been achieved using locally propagated indigenous plants and directly below the deck is a natural wetland forest one of the biggest and ecologically diverse on the entire Dolphin Coast. During the day, preferably at early morning and late afternoon times, one can walk through this forest on an elevated boardwalk traversing the forest for a distance of 100 meters.
The forest is not only spectacular in its magnitude but it contains plants such an aquatic orchid called Platylepis glandulosa that only survives today in a limited number of localities in KZN and Scadoxus multiflorus subsp. katharinae or Katherine Wheel named in honour of Katherine Saunders who first painted it in the late 1800s. At least twenty mammal species occur on the estate most prominent being the Blue Duiker, Grey Duiker and Bush Baby the latter call reminiscent of a baby crying out in the night. Ninety seven bird species are recorded for the estate some charismatic like the Wood Owl, Barn Owl, Spotted Eagle Owl, Olive Woodpecker, Palmnut Vulture and spectacular Narina Trogon. Gymnogene and Woolly-necked Stork nest in the forest.
Apart from the biological splendor of the forest below the Club House deck it is the whole environment that will prepare you for the wonderful cuisine that awaits the guests in the restaurant, added also is the peace of mind knowing that ones transport is safe in the parking area.
